Welcome to the Governors’ page! You’ll find a brief description of what we do and who we are – we hope you find it useful.

The role of the governing board is a strategic one, and should have a strong focus on three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

As governors we are there to support the Headteacher and the staff. The role is often described as ‘a critical friend’. Most of us are from a non-educational background and we use our experience to help set direction and challenge progress across the whole spectrum of academy life. We monitor and evaluate against our Academy Development Plan to ensure that pupils are progressing well, our finances are being used to optimal effect and we have effective policies in place. We also undertake less routine activities such as visiting the academy in action during the school day, interviewing and recruiting of staff and meeting with external stakeholders.

Our Governing Body meets at least once every half term. We discuss a range of items from pupil progress and attendance to financial and premises related matters. At each meeting we like to focus a 'spotlight' on a particular area and set aside the first part of the meeting to do this. In this section we could be joined by a subject lead who will share updates to curriculum and provide pupils books for governors to review or be updated by pupils on a project they have done.

As governors we are committed to providing an exciting and enjoyable learning environment for all pupils during their time at our academy.
